Angie Spinelli
Pianist - Keyboardist - Teacher



Angie Spinelli, a recent transplant to the San Francisco Bay Area, is an accomplished classically-trained concert pianist and jazz improviser who has been playing since she was four years old. Angie received her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Wisconsin, where she studied classical piano performance with Howard Karp. She received a full-tuition music scholarship and won competitions including the UW Beethoven Competition and UW Concerto Competition. Angie then moved to Phoenix, Arizona, continuing her musical studies in jazz improvisation and composition with pianist Raul Yańez.
Angie now free-lances and plays many different styles of music, including jazz, Latin, R&B, Funk, adult contemporary, pop/alternative rock, and hip-hop/dance music. She performs with the all-female jazz and R&B band "Girlz with a Z" every Wednesday evening at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose. She has also played at venues including Anna's Jazz Island in Berkeley and the Mark Hopkins Hotel in San Francisco. She is available to play at restaurants/nightclubs, weddings, private parties/corporate events, and also does studio work and composing/arranging. Her musical influences include Chopin, J.S. Bach, Keith Jarrett, Bill Evans, McCoy Tyner, and Stevie Wonder.
Angie also returns to her classical roots as a soloist and accompanist. Her most recent accomplishment was accompanying the Sun Valley Chorus on Handel's Messiah. She also does opera work, music theater, and vocal coaching.
If you are interested in lessons, Angie has over 10 years experience teaching all ages, levels and styles from classical to popular and jazz. She teaches at Musically Minded Piano Studio in Rockridge, Oakland. She strives to give her students a balanced musical education including sight-reading, music theory, technique, rhythm, and improvisation, while tailoring to their own musical interests.
Angie is also an avid chef who has developed numerous gluten-free and dairy-free recipes which are published regularly on her blog, http://www.angiesrecipes.com. Angie enjoys going to the farmers' markets twice a week and creating delicious concoctions of fresh, seasonal foods.
